Vision & Visual Function in Autistic Spectrum Disorder
This project is investigating vision and aspects of visual function in a large cohort of children with Autism or Asperger’s syndrome.
While it is established that children with ASD view and process the world differently, little is known about more fundamental aspects of their vision and visual status and the prevalence of eye problems that this group may have.
This study will measure vision, refractive error, bincoularity, visual fields, accommodation and quality of eye movevements and provide an important evidence base for this population of children.
We have developed a video clip showing how the visual assessment will be done. Click here to view. This may be useful for your child to watch prior to attending.
We are also interested in the parental and professional views about eye care sevices for those with ASD. If you are a parent of a child with ASD who wishes to get involved, we have a questionnaire you can fill out.
